About 12 degrees north of the equator, 50 miles (80 km) north of Venezuela. About 24 miles (39 km) long and 3-7 miles (5-11 km) wide. An area of 112 square miles (290 km2) and a population of some 14.000.
Local language is Papiamentu, Dutch, English and Spanish is widely spoken.
The fringing reef which surrounds Bonaire is a National Marine Park from the high water mark, down to 200 feet/ 60m
